Park Forest Board of Trustees Adopts Proclamation for Officer Timothy Jones, Announces March 19 Event (Video)

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—March 10, 2017. The Park Forest Board of Trustees adopted a proclamation last night officially making March 19 Officer Timothy Jones Day in Park Forest.

The proclamation follows:

A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING OFFICER TIMOTHY JONES

Whereas,       Officer Timothy Jones finished first in the Police Officer List of Eligible Hires during the 2015 hiring process; and

Whereas,       Tim, a second generation police officer, was hired by the Park Forest Police Department on June 29, 2015; and

Whereas,       after graduating from the police academy, Tim established a reputation for aggressively seeking out criminal offenses and traffic violators while also demonstrating a strong commitment to community policing; and

Whereas,       as a rookie patrol officer, he was awarded two Outstanding Service Awards for superior actions; and

Whereas,       on March 19, 2016, Tim was critically wounded in the line of duty while taking an armed suspect into custody for felony crimes; and

Whereas,       Tim was subsequently awarded the Medal of Valor, the Park Forest Police Department’s highest award, and the Combat Star; and

Whereas,       Tim Jones was named the 2016 Officer of the Year; and

Whereas,       Tim has demonstrated integrity, resolve, and an unwillingness to give up in a very difficult and on-going recovery process, far surpassing the expectations of many medical personnel, and continuing to do so on a consistent basis, serving as an inspiration for many who have become aware of his story and bringing a community together in his support,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor John A. Ostenburg, and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties, do hereby proclaim March 19, 2017, to be Officer Timothy Jones Day, in celebration of his making remarkable steps towards recovery and having achieved so much one year from his injury and in recognition of the community that rose to support him and his department. We wish him continued success as he remains on the path towards healing and offer our continued thanks and collective support.

Community Gathering To Mark One Year #TimStrong

A community gathering will be held on March 19 at St. Irenaeus Church, 78 Cherry Street in Park Forest, in recognition of the one-year mark since Timothy Jones began his road to recovery. The event will also recognize the men and women of the Park Forest Fire and Police Departments credited with helping to save Jones’ life.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m.

All members of the community are asked to attend this event to provide the strongest showing of support possible for Officer Jones, his family and friends, and the Park Forest Police and Fire Departments.
