Sierra Club Statement on Marco Rubio’s endorsement by Climate Denier Inhofe

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–January 12, 2016.   This weekend, the Senate’s most vocal climate denier, James Inhofe, officially endorsed his Senate colleague and fellow climate-denier Marco Rubio for the Republican nomination for President.

In Response, Sierra Club Political Director Khalid Pitts released the following statement:

“Thank you, Senator Inhofe, for helping shine a light on just how extreme Marco Rubio’s climate-denying, pro-polluter agenda really is.

“There’s no doubt that Senator Inhofe had a tough choice for his endorsement, as the Republican field is packed full of climate deniers who would warmly embrace Inhofe’s Climate Denier seal of approval as they beg for attention and campaign dollars from fossil fuel executives. Each one of them is standing steadfastly against clean air and climate action initiatives backed by everyone from the Pope to the Dalai Lama to large majorities of the American public, just weeks after 195 nations signed onto a universal agreement to act on climate.

“Perhaps Inhofe was following the lead of oil executives like Harold Hamm, who are now turning their attention to Rubio. Or, maybe Inhofe saw a little bit of himself in Rubio, impressed by a candidate who has seen direct evidence that climate change is threatening his South Florida community and proceeded to bury his head in the sand while the seas keep rising anyway.

“Either way, you can bet the fossil fuel endorsement sweepstakes will kick into full swing as those in the Republican field will try and outdo one another in attacking clean air, clean energy, and climate action policies backed by the American public but opposed by deep pocked fossil fuel campaign funders.”
