Sierra Club Response to Senate Gun Control Votes

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–June 20, 2016.  Today, the U.S. Senate defeated efforts by Senators Dianne Feinstein and Chris Murphy to make it harder for suspected terrorists to acquire firearms and to close the gun show loophole.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“Hatred and gun violence have threatened our communities and our country for far too long. No American needs another reminder that tragic gun violence is becoming a frighteningly common occurrence in our country. That devastating fact is brought home with every shocking headline and every life lost.”

“The Sierra Club’s mission commits us to protect and restore the quality of the human and natural environment using all the means available to us. That is why our 2.4 million members and supporters  join our fellow Americans both in shock at these tragedies and in a clear call for action. Enough is enough.”

“Today, the Senate had an opportunity to take action to prevent gun violence, but Senate Republicans stood in the way. Senate Republicans callously put political favoritism for the gun industry in front of human lives, and cannot find the soul to take one simple, sensible step to prevent more tragedies.”
