WASHINGTON—(ENEWSPF)–December 9, 2016. Today, President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is expected to announce Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) as his choice for Secretary of the Interior. The National Audubon Society issued the following response:

“Cathy McMorris Rodgers has a huge opportunity to use the power of Interior to protect wildlife, defend public lands and address climate change—all of which matter to our birds and our kids,” said David Yarnold (@david_yarnold), the CEO and President of the National Audubon Society. “Americans from every corner of the country and all across the political spectrum strongly support protecting our natural heritage because conservation doesn’t have a party.

“America has a proud history of Secretaries of the Interior who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to science-based conservation and strong enforcement of our bedrock environmental laws. Representative McMorris Rodgers must use the confirmation process to show us she will be that kind of Secretary.”

The National Audubon Society saves birds and their habitats throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education and on-the-ground conservation. Audubon’s state programs, nature centers, chapters and partners have an unparalleled wingspan that reaches millions of people each year to inform, inspire and unite diverse communities in conservation action. Since 1905, Audubon’s vision has been a world in which people and wildlife thrive. Audubon is a nonprofit conservation organization. Learn more at www.audubon.org and follow @audubonsociety.
