Planned Parenthood Calls on House to Reject Harmful Abortion Restriction

‘This bill would hurt low-income women’s health,’ Planned Parenthood says

Washington D.C. —(ENEWSPF)—March 24, 2015.  Planned Parenthood Federation of America today called on leadership in the House of Representatives to work quickly to remove a harmful abortion restriction from a healthcare funding package that currently ignores and marginalizes the needs of women and their health care.

Following is a statement by Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“We strongly oppose the House health care funding package because it leaves women’s health out completely and extends barriers to abortion coverage.

“At Planned Parenthood, we know firsthand that this bill would hurt low-income women’s health. We know there are many times that a doctor recommends a woman have an abortion for serious health reasons, and this proposal would permanently block some women from getting the health care their doctors say they need.

“This is part of an organized, orchestrated effort to block access to abortion for the most vulnerable women in this country, as we’ve now seen 27 attempts by Congress to interfere with abortion access in less than three months. The House should act now to remove this harmful provision that would restrict a woman’s ability to get the healthcare her doctor recommends.”
