SEIU: President Obama’s Administrative Action Life-Changing for Millions of Immigrant Families, Important Step Forward

Milestone Moment Decades in the Making Galvanizes Immigrant and Working Families and Communities to Fight Forward and Push Republicans in Congress to Pass Long-Term Fix

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–November 20, 2014.  SEIU President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement:

“For millions of immigrant families, President Obama’s administrative action is life-changing. With this action, the President has taken our country forward in addressing what needs to be fixed about our broken immigration system. Millions of parents and children who work hard and play by the rules can now live without fear of being separated from their loved ones.

“This is an historic milestone moment that has been decades in the making, but our fight is not done. Only Congress can pass a long-term fix to our broken immigration system. Republican leaders in Congress have failed America’s immigrant families over and over again. Their threats to shut down the federal government, sue the President, or block funding to stop administrative action from happening only galvanize our fight forward.

“Tomorrow we continue our fight in actions across the country to unite and organize for comprehensive immigration reform. If Republican leaders choose politics over people by refusing to address our broken immigration system, we will hold them accountable in the streets and at the ballot box in 2016.”

Today SEIU and partners launched iAmerica.org a resource for immigrant families to learn if they are eligible and get help. For more information on actions across the country tomorrow please go to http://iamerica.org/events/.
