Travel guru Rick Steves recently completed a 6-day, 10-city trip around Oregon in early October to talk about travel and the need to end marijuana prohibition in Oregon.With stops in Portland, Beaverton, Salem, Corvallis, Eugene, Medford, Ashland, Bend, The Dalles and Gresham, he spread the word to more than 1500 Oregonians about a more rational approach to marijuana, one based on his experiences traveling that have shown him how different societies tackle problems of addiction and drug crimes.
“One thing I’ve learned in 30 years of travel is that treating marijuana as a crime does not work,” he said. “A better approach is to regulate it, legalize it and tax it. I’m not pro-pot. I’m an advocate for better policy, and that’s what Oregon will get once Measure 91 passes.”
