BP Found Grossly Negligent in Ruling on Deepwater Horizon Disaster, Audubon Statement

Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)—September 4, 2014. U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier today found BP grossly negligent for its role in the 2010 oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Audubon Society issued the following statement:

“This means that BP will finally be forced to pay what it owes to fix what it broke,” said Audubon President and CEO David Yarnold. “It is a long-awaited step toward healing and recovery for the Gulf Coast, its birds and its people. BP said it was above the law; Judge Barbier said the law applies to everyone, even multinational giants.”

The National Audubon Society saves birds and their habitats throughout the Americas using science, advocacy, education and on-the-ground conservation. Audubon’s state programs, nature centers, chapters and partners have an unparalleled wingspan that reaches millions of people each year to inform, inspire and unite diverse communities in conservation action. Since 1905, Audubon’s vision has been a world in which people and wildlife thrive. Audubon is a nonprofit conservation organization. Learn more at www.audubon.org and @audubonsociety.
