Center for American Progress on the Creation of a CEO for the Affordable Care Act

Washington, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–June 20, 2014.  Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden issued the following statement today after the Obama administration announced the search for a CEO and chief technology officer for the Affordable Care Act’s, or ACA’s, federal and state marketplaces. In May, CAP issued a report calling for the creation of a CEO position to oversee the marketplace’s transition away from its initial roll-out phase.

Today’s announcement that the administration is beginning the search for a permanent CEO to manage the federal and state exchanges is an important step to ensure the success of the ACA. Under this structure, a single leader will be empowered and accountable for further implementation of the program, as well as  able to provide a singular vision for its future. This announcement closely mirrors CAP’s own policy recommendations and shows decisive leadership from new Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
