Veterans Learn About Housing Opportunities at Symposium Hosted By Congresswoman Robin Kelly

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 26, 2016.  Chicago area veterans were informed about new and underused benefits available to them during a Veterans Housing Symposium hosted by Congresswoman Robin Kelly at the Vodak-East Side Public Library on Saturday in Chicago.

Among the topics of discussion were property tax benefits for veterans, mortgage options and displacement assistance. Speakers included Victor LaGroon, director of the Chicago Office of Veterans Affairs, and David Piatek, vice president of The Federal Savings Bank, who specializes in VA home loans. A representative from the Cook County Assessor’s Office also informed residents of property tax exemptions that many veterans don’t realize exist.

“We owe it to the men and women who wear our country’s uniform to ensure that they – and their families – receive the community support they’ve earned for their sacrifice and service,” Rep. Kelly said.  “I host numerous programs throughout the year to keep our veterans updated on all the benefits and resources available to them. During this event, we had a mixture of younger and older veterans, and because all of our speakers were veterans with a personal understanding of the issues, they did an excellent job of thoroughly answering their questions.”
