Man Shot by BB Gun When He Confronts Late-Night Jaywalkers

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– A man was shot by a BB gun after he confronted three teenagers walking on Blackhawk Drive in the middle of the street. According to police, a man told them he was walking eastbound on Blackhawk Drive from Shabbona Drive when he saw three teenagers walking in the middle of the street after 11:00 p.m. on June 24. The man said he told them they needed to get out of the street or they were going to get hit by a car. The three were allegedly looking into houses that did not have lights on. The man said he asked them, "What are you doing, looking for newspapers?"

At this point, two of the subjects walked toward the man. One of them allegedly pulled a gun from his front waistband and pointed it at the man’s forehead, saying, "Give me your cash." The man said he told the subject that he did not have money. The subject then asked him, "What is in the bag?" The man said he told him there was only a Slurpee in the bag. The subject then told him to kick the bag to him.

The man said he refused to take the bag over and grabbed the subject’s arm, pulling it down and trying to tackle him. At this point, he heard the gun go off and felt pain in his right knee. All the juveniles then ran eastbound towards Somonauk Street.

An officer observed that the man’s knee had a small circular abbrasion that appeared to come from a BB gun.

Police discovered the three teenagers behind a tree on Nauvoo Street. While they were being handcuffed, one of them allegedly said, "Why are you arresting my friends? I am the one who shot him."

The incident was turned over to the Detective Division for further investigation.
