Chicago FBI: Murder Suspect Mario Puente Extradited from Mexico

Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Interim Superintendent Lori Lelis of the Cicero Police Department (Cicero PD) announced today the arrest of MARIO PUENTE, age 30, whose last known address was 5515 W. 18th Street, Cicero, Illinois.

PUENTE was the subject of an international manhunt coordinated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes and Fugitive Task Force since July of 2008. In January of 2009, PUENTE  was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution – First Degree Murder.

PUENTE is wanted by the Cicero PD for the brutal stabbing death of his wife, YESENIA VILLABA, in July of 2008. PUENTE shared an apartment with VILLABA and their infant daughter. After VILLABA’s body was found, neither PUENTE nor the child could be located. The Cicero PD contacted the FBI and requested assistance in locating PUENTE. Continued investigation by the Cicero PD and the FBI, working with the Mexican authorities, resulted in PUENTE’s voluntary surrender to the police in Mexico in December of 2008.
