Get Plugged in at Prairie State College

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–January 10, 2013. The Sustainability Center at Prairie State College (PSC) is excited to offer free charging to community members at the college’s newly installed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. The charging stations are part of the college’s strategic sustainability plan and are just one of the many initiatives PSC is implementing to green the campus and serve as a community demonstration site.

To showcase the new EV charging stations, PSC is hosting Plugged In on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the PSC main campus, 202 S. Halsted Street, Chicago Heights, IL. Phillips Chevrolet of Frankfort and Carbon Day Automotive also are sponsoring the event. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with a dedication ceremony at 4:30 p.m., and electric vehicle demonstration, EV incentives and rebates, and refreshments.

“The EV charging stations highlight PSC’s commitment to sustainability and position PSC as an integral part in the statewide effort to create the infrastructure necessary to support EV drivers,” said Allessandra Cairo, PSC sustainability coordinator. In addition to the new EV stations, PSC now offers designated green parking at the college’s main entrance for EV, hybrid, and low emission vehicles (those receiving more than 35 mpg). It was with these efforts and more that PSC was recognized as a Bronze Level Compact School by the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council (GGCC) within the Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact program.

Advance registration for the Plugged In event is required by Jan. 30. Register by emailing Allessandra Cairo at [email protected].  For more information about this event the other sustainability activities, visit prairiestate.edu/sustainability.
