Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)-November 6, 2012. Ever wonder what happens to the lawn waste that you put in those brown bags for pick up by the local trash company?  This was one of the many ‘mysteries’ that was solved during a recent tour by Park Forest Village officials and representatives of the Environment Commission to Star Disposal.

Some of the grass clippings, leaves, and small branches placed in the bags were provided by Star Disposal to Larry Christiansen of Christian Farms in Peotone.

Larry then used this waste to make compost that was donated to Environment Commission’s community garden project.

Bob Goetsh of Star Disposal picked up the compost in Peotone and then delivered it to the community garden at St. Irenaeus Church – the location of the largest of the seven community gardens, where other gardeners picked up the compost and prepared their garden beds for next year’s planting.

A representative from the Park Forest Police Department along with 3 young men doing community service assisted with spreading the remaining compost in the St. Irenaeus garden.

The Environment Commission wishes to thank all those involved in this recycling project.
