Two Southland College Prep Charter High School Speech Team Members Earn IHSA Sectional Medals; Advance to State Tournament

RICHTON PARK, ILLINOIS—(ENEWSPF)–February 15, 2016—Two Southland College Prep Charter High School Speech and Forensics team members earned medals at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) South Sectional tournament that drew teams from 25 high schools this weekend at Reavis High School, Burbank, Illinois.

Janessa Colquitt, a senior who resides in Country Club Hills, Illinois, earned a first place medal in Oratorical Declamation for her presentation of “ Why the Best Hire Might Not Have the Perfect Resume” and also took third place in the Poetry Reading event for her delivery of “The Subtle Art of Breathing.

Chyna Sanders, a junior from Richton Park, Illinois, placed second in Prose Reading for her delivery of “Raymond’s Run.”

Both Southland College Prep students will compete in the IHSA Speech State Final tournament Friday, Saturday, February 19-20 at the Peoria Civic Center when finalists from around Illinois will participate.

“We continue to take great pride in the stellar performances of all the Southland College Prep Speech and Forensics team members as they compete at each stage of the annual state tournament. Our speech coaches, led by Ms. Cheryl Frazier, Director of Forensics and Theater, have prepared our team well and we look forward to our students’ performance in the State finals,” said Dr. Blondean Davis, CEO.
