Distinguished Real Estate Educator Joins Roosevelt University

David Funk

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–July 10, 2015.  David L. Funk, director of the Baker Program in Real Estate at Cornell University in New York, will join the faculty at Roosevelt University’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate in fall 2015 as the newly appointed Pasquinelli Family Distinguished Chair in Real Estate.

Funk, one of the nation’s leading real estate educators, held a leadership role with Capstone Properties prior to earning his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He replaces Sofia Dermisi, a long-time Roosevelt faculty member who took a position as the Runstad Endowed Professor in Real Estate at the University of Washington in fall 2014.

“We are thrilled that David Funk will be joining the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate. We expect his expertise, scholarship and experience to bring national attention and esteem to our growing program,” said Jon B.DeVries, director of the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt.

The head of Cornell’s real estate program since 2005, Funk also served as executive editor of the Cornell Real Estate Review and has been a frequent contributing expert on real estate topics being covered by national and regional media.   An expert in real estate transactions and career issues in commercial real estate, he has a forthcoming book on real estate private equity and deal structures and was recently named as co-chair of the American Real Estate Society’s Career Center.   Previously, he was director of the Manderson Graduate School of Business’s MBA Program and a faculty member at the University of Alabama.

“It is an honor to be named the Pasquinelli Family Chair in Real Estate, and I look forward to contributing to Roosevelt’s remarkable progressive educational tradition,” said Funk, adding “Teaching, researching and providing outreach in the context of such a great real estate city is very exciting.”

Funk has developed and taught numerous real estate courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels during his career, including real estate market analysis, real estate transactions and deal structuring, development, property management, and real estate principles.  He also remains active in the commercial real estate industry, and was recently selected as a Counselor in Real Estate (CRE) as well as serving as the NAIOP Boyd Stofer Distinguished Fellow.
