CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–July 2, 2015. On July 4, Roosevelt University President Ali Malekzadeh will be honored for his contributions as a naturalized United States citizen by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, alongside 37 other “great immigrants” from more than 30 countries.
Carnegie is recognizing the group because their “contributions are vital to the fabric of our nation” and because they have “helped advance and enlighten our society, culture and economy.”
Dr. Malekzadeh is one of three university leaders and one of two Illinois residents on the list.
An expert on strategic management, President Malekzadeh was born in Iran and came to the U.S. to study. In 1979, shortly after graduating from the University of Denver, the Iranian Revolution took place and he and his wife, Afsaneh Nahavandi, were unable to return home. They were granted asylum by the United States and later became U.S. citizens.
“We are living examples of the American Dream,” said Dr. Malekzadeh, whose first day as Roosevelt’s president was July 1. “We lost our country and our possessions. Our education was all we had going for us.”
Carnegie Corporation, founded by Andrew Carnegie, an immigrant from Scotland, will honor the citizens with a full-page public service advertisement in the July 4th New York Times.
