Southland College Prep Group Interpretation Team to Compete in Illinois High School Association Final Meet at University of Illinois Springfield


RICHTON PARK, IL—(ENEWSPF)–March 25, 2015—Southland College Prep Charter High School’s Group Interpretation team took second place in the Illinois State High School Association (IHSA) Dolton Sectional competition.

Seven of the ten cast members were named by judges to the All Sectional Group Interpretation Cast.

The team will compete in the Group Interpretation finals scheduled at the University of Illinois, Springfield Friday, March 27-Saturday, March 28.

The Southland team performed a piece from “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” a classic black novel written by Zora Neal Hurston that tells the story of a black women who doesn’t have to live lost in sorrow, bitterness, fear or romantic dreams.

Southland’s Group Interpretation cast includes:

Janessa Colquitt, junior, Country Club Hills; Jarrett Exum, senior, Richton Park; Erik Thomas, senior, Matteson; Malik Bibbie, senior, Richton Park; Charnnia Jones,  senior, Richton Park; Deiarah Wright, senior, Matteson; Noelle Robinson, sophomore, Matteson; Zadok Dean, III, junior, Country Club Hills; Coretta Franklin,  senior, Park Forest and Chyna Sanders, sophomore, Richton Park.

Student Directors are Rayven Morrow, senior; John Anderson, sophomore; and Takiyah Brown, sophomore.

Named to the All Sectional Group Interpretation Cast were: Janessa Colquitt, Jarrett Exum, Malik Bibbie, Erik Thomas, Deiarah Wright and Zadok Dean III and Coretta Franklin.

“The opportunity to compete in the IHSA’s Group Interpretation finals is another fine accomplishment by Southland College Prep’s Forensic and Theatre team. We continue to be proud of the performances turned in by our forensics team whose accomplishments at this five –year-old charter high school, which has a non-selective enrollment, is phenomenal,” said Dr. Blondean Davis, CEO.
