CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 24, 2014. String musicians studying at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) will perform with the Ying Quartet during CCPA’s String Chamber Music Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 in the University’s Ganz Hall, 430 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
Known for its brilliant communicative performances and imaginative view of chamber music, the Ying Quartet will be collaborating with about 60 CCPA students in advance of the Oct. 31 performance, with four students presenting the outcome of their work with the Ying Quartet during the Showcase celebration.
“This will be a tremendous opportunity for our students to be able to learn and to play with a group of this caliber,” said Stefan Hersh, head of string chamber music at Roosevelt.
The resident quartet with the Eastman School of Music in New York, the Ying Quartet has performed in many of the world’s most important concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House, as well as in workplaces, schools, juvenile detention facilities and at the White House.
The ensemble first came to prominence during the 1990s as the resident quartet in Jesup, Iowa, a farm town of about 2,000 people who were introduced to the quartet’s music and the impact it had on community life during performances held in homes, schools, churches and banks. Since then, the Ying Quartet has made a number of award-winning recordings and has had many diverse and unusual performance projects.
