Manufacturing Day Scheduled at Prairie State College on October 2


CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—September 18, 2014. Prairie State College (PSC) is celebrating Manufacturing Day with an exhibitor fair from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Prairie Center, located in the Tech Wing on the college’s main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

Company demonstrations will educate students and the general public about today’s world of manufacturing by showcasing modern processes and practices of the manufacturing field. Manufacturers will be on hand to highlight product innovation and technology and talk with attendees about potential career paths. Students and community members can participate in a variety of activities, including facility and lab tours, as well as observe machine demonstrations. While on campus, attendees also can explore the certificate and degree programs offered by PSC that can help start a career in manufacturing.

Among the companies scheduled for demonstrations are the Illinois Manufacturing Association (IMA), the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC), Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International (FMA), Maker Labs of the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium (SMHEC), Rapid Direction (3D Printer), Component Tool Corporation, Arcelor Mittal, Chicago Magnesium, and the Reserves Network.

The exhibitor fair is being offered in partnership with PSC, OAI, Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center, Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing, Illinois workNet Center in Arlington Heights, Medusa Consulting Group, South Suburban Economic Development Corporation, Bloom Township High School, Bloom Trail High School, Rich East High School, Rich South High School, Rich Central High School, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, and Crete-Monee High School.

Manufacturing Day is a nationwide event intended to increase awareness of the importance and value of the manufacturing industry and its careers. Manufacturing Day events occur across the country, and are intended for anyone who is curious about modern manufacturing and want to know more about modern-day manufacturing facilities.

“By celebrating Manufacturing Day at PSC, the community and PSC students have a chance to learn about new careers and high-tech advances in manufacturing,” said William Kuban, INAM project specialist at PSC. “We encourage people to come and learn how they can build their future at Prairie State College.”
