CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–June 10, 2014.  Courtney Makowksi, a 22-year-old pharmacy student at Roosevelt University’s Schaumburg Campus, has been selected to sit on the University’s Board of Trustees for a two-year term beginning July 1.

Makowksi of Naperville is the first student ever from the College of Pharmacy to be selected for the 73-member Board of Trustees and will be one of two student trustees on the board.

“This will be a great opportunity for me to be a voice for the Schaumburg Campus and its engagement with the community and the University as a whole,” said Makowski, who is currently studying for a doctorate in pharmacy, which she will receive in 2016.

Joining Roosevelt’s College of Pharmacy in July 2013, Makowski has been the Social and Service Chair of the college’s Student Advisory Council where she organized a Schaumburg Campus food drive for the Palatine Food Pantry and a service night at the not-for-profit Feed My Starving Children. A member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, where she is Pledge Service Chair, Makowski was recently voted Most Scholarly Pledge and Most Brotherly Pledge. She is the new Vice Regent of Kappa Psi, has been chair of the patient care project, Heart Healthy Kids, through the American Pharmacist Association and is the new president of Roosevelt’s Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacy.

“Courtney has been a real leader at the College of Pharmacy and I believe she will bring a new perspective both as a Schaumburg Campus student and a doctoral student to the Board of Trustees,” said George MacKinnon, founding dean of the College of Pharmacy. “We expect her to raise the level of insight at the Board of Trustees about our college as well as about the University’s graduate-level students in general,” he said.

A 2013 graduate of Lewis University in Romeoville, where she has a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Makowksi played Division II college softball at Lewis, and is expected to have insights into athletics programming at Roosevelt.  As a student trustee, she will vote on policy matters concerning the University, including its budget, programming and appointments.

“One of my main goals will be to bring more visibility and attention to Roosevelt’s Schaumburg Campus,” she said.
