South Holland, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Video Competition on Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the Kindig Performing Arts Center.  The competition showcases talent from area high schools as well as provides local students with a tour of the college’s facilities, featuring the television studio/control room, audio studio/control room, and multimedia lab.

"Every school did a great job – both technically and creatively,” said SSC Communication Instructor John Geraci.  “The entries get better and better every year."

Nine local high schools submitted entries to the competition including Bremen, Eisenhower, Hillcrest, Oak Forest, Shepard, T.F. North, Thornton, Thornwood, and Tinley Park.  Students entered work in eight different categories:  Commercial, PSA, Short Subject, Music Video, Creative Editing, News Story or Feature, News Program, and Live Multi-Camera Program.  The 80 entries were judged on aesthetic quality, technical quality, program design, and overall effectiveness.

Geraci added, “We were really excited to add two new categories this year.  We also received about 30 more entries than last year, so it’s great to see the growth in the competition.”

In addition to the student awards, high schools competed among each other for the Regional Award of Distinction.  Thornton Township High School won this award, having the highest average score per entry.

"My students worked diligently this year to complete documentary films, commercials, PSAs, and music videos for the competition,” said Media Production/Speech Teacher, Keith W. Hudson.  “We went through several rough cuts on all of the films and we worked together and supported each other in the creative process.  We are proud of what we accomplished."
