Officer Chases Down Stolen Car

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— A Park Forest police officer is credited with recovering a stolen car last Thursday after pursuing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Sauk Trail.  According to police reports, just before 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, Officer Mannino observed a grey and red pickup truck traveling very quickly eastbound on Sauk Trail.  Officer Mannino activated his handheld radar inside of his squad car.  The device clocked the truck at 76 miles per hour.

The officer immediately activated the patrol squad emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over.  However, the truck was traveling at such a high rate of speed that Mannino could not do so.  The truck turned southbound on Western Avenue from Sauk Trail, and then eastbound onto Steger Road.  Mannino, still in pursuit, observed the vehicle turn south onto Kings Rd., and then into the Colonies Apartment complex in the 3400 block of Kings Rd.  When Officer Mannino was able to safely catch up to the vehicle, the driver was not in the area.

Mannino checked the vehicle’s registration and found that the truck belonged to a Tinley Park resident who had lent the vehicle to his son.  When the truck allegedly ran out of gas, the car was left at the Odyssey Fun World.  It was from there that the truck disappeared, according to the report.  The driver reported that he had left a spare ignition key on the floorboard of the truck.
