Park Forest Police Blotter Reports for June 15, 2015

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)–Editor’s Note: We continue our reporting on news from police reports. Besides covering the many stories from around Park Forest that otherwise might go unnoticed, we want to bring more complete coverage of police reports than is reported by other local media.

A vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Orchard Drive was reported vandalized by scratches on June 1.

Approximately $30 cash was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Nashua Street on June 1.

A number of Recreation and Parks employees were performing various tasks at the Central Park Wetlands observation deck on May 29 until 5 PM. Returning to the observation deck on May 30 at approximately 9 AM, workers observed that portions of the deck were damaged, carved with a knife and a portion of the wooden railings appeared to have been kicked out. Police are investigating.

A white Apple iPod valued at $200 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Oakwood Street on June 1. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or any damage to the vehicle.

Edward C. Williams, 54, 22422 Millard Ave., Richton Park, was arrested on June 3 and charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia when police responded to a business in the first block of Main Street to investigate a report of retail theft.

Dustin M. Hammond, 34, 275 Rich Rd., Park Forest, was arrested on June 3 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and retail theft when police responded to a business in the first block of Main Street to investigate a report of retail theft.

A resident told police on June 3 at the Park Forest Police Department that he received 2 Apple iPhones valued at $949.99 each from Verizon Wireless. He told police that he does have an account with Verizon but did not order the phones.

A resident told police on June 5 at the Park Forest Police Department that she noticed several unauthorized transactions in her bank account when she checked online. The transactions were close to $900 with $185 in fees.

Andre McCaskill, 52, 15100 Woodlawn Ave., Dolton, was arrested on June 5 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol count above .08, improper lane usage, and driving under the influence of alcohol when police were dispatched to the area of Orchard Drive and Indianwood Boulevard to investigate a driving under the influence of alcohol complaint. Dispatch advised that a vehicle struck a guardrail westbound on Sauk Trail at Western Avenue. McCaskill’s breath alcohol concentration was .20, according to police.

Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Osage Street on June 6 in reference to a report of a barking dog. Police attempted to make contact at the residence but were unsuccessful. The dog was tied up in the back fenced-in yard. The dog did not have proper shelter, food, and water, according to police. The dog was taken by police to Forest South Animal Hospital. Police received a call from the owner who told them that he was currently on “active duty” in the Army. He was unable to tell them where he was. He advised police that care of the dog was entrusted to a family friend. Police advised that tickets would be issued charging cruelty (lack of food/water/shelter) and no Park Forest animal tag. A family member eventually paid the fine at the Park Forest Police Department and picked up the dog.

An undetermined amount of loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Road on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.

Less than $5 in change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Hemlock Street on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.

An iPod and less than $5 in change were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Hemlock Street on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.

A Springfield XDM .45 caliber firearm, serial number MG603908 and 12 rounds of ammunition were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of Cherry Street on June 6. One of the vehicle’s windows had been left slightly open, according to police.

Less than $5 in change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Hemlock Street on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.

$300 cash was reported stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Allegheny Street on June 6. Police have suspect information and are investigating.

Approximately $5 in change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Dogwood Street on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry to the vehicle.

Entry was made to a vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Road on June 6, according to police. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.

Entry was made to a vehicle parked in the first block of Cromwell Road on June 6. The driver’s side rear window of the vehicle had been shattered. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.

Entry was made to an unlocked vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Road on June 6. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.

Entry was made to a vehicle parked in the first block of McGarity Road on June 6 by apparently prying open a door. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.

A ratchet and socket set valued at approximately $100 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Road on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicle.

Two Apple iPods were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of McGarity Road on June 6. One of the windows of the vehicle was partially down.

Approximately $15 cash was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Hemlock Street on June 6. Additionally, a wallet that had been left in the vehicle was observed to be empty. A window of the vehicle had been left slightly open.

Entry was gained to a vehicle parked in the first block of Apple Lane on June 6. The vehicle had been left unlocked.

Entry was gained to an unlocked vehicle parked in the first block of Cherry Street on June 6. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.

Less than $5 in loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of McCarthy Road on June 6. Police did not observe any signs of forced entry.

Michelle M. Karko, 44, 27461 S. Crawford Ave., Monee, was arrested on June 6 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct when police were summoned to the Park Forest Police Department regarding a complaint of a theft.

Darius J. Waters, 33, 443 Suwanee St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 6 and issued a municipal citation charging possession of cannabis when an officer patrolling southbound on Central Park Avenue at Sauk Trail observed that the vehicle Waters was driving had only one functioning headlight, according to police.

Bernard Bishop, 43, 1145 Park View Ave., Chicago Heights, was arrested on June 7 and charged with speeding over the statutory limit, failure to dim headlights, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol level greater than .08, driving under the influence of alcohol, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle when an officer traveling southbound on Western Avenue at Main Street observed the vehicle Bishop was driving traveling at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to police. Bishop had a breath alcohol concentration of .16, according to police.

An unknown amount of coins were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the first block of Dogwood Street on June 8.

A wallet and an envelope containing an unknown amount of cash were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Birch Street on June 8. Entry was made to the vehicle by smashing out a vent window.

Five $100 gift cards were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of Choate Road on June 8.

A box of cigarettes was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the first block of Choate Road on June 8.

A wall of the school building at St. Irenaeus Church was reported vandalized with spray paint on June 8.

Shondrea D. Lewis, 18, 136 Ash St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 8 and charged with 3 counts of theft when police responded to the Park Forest Police Department to investigate a report of theft.

Brett A. Michaels, 35, 3323 Commercial Ave., South Chicago Heights, was arrested on June 9 and issued traffic citations charging reckless driving, speeding, improper U-turn, improper overtaking, and improper lane usage when an officer on stationary patrol in the 2500 block of Western Avenue observed the vehicle Michaels was driving allegedly execute an improper U-turn at 26th Street and Western Avenue while allegedly traveling at a rate of speed that caused the vehicle’s tires to screech continuously for approximately 2 seconds, according to police.

Approximately $200 worth of silver coins and a wallet were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the first block of Dunham Road on June 8.

Entry was made to an unlocked vehicle parked in the first block of Dunlap Road on June 8. Nothing was reported stolen.

Herbert C. McGrath, 52, 3428 Red Oak Ln., Crete, was arrested on June 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol content above .08, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, and illegal transportation of open alcohol when police were advised of a possible driver under the influence eastbound on Sauk Trail called into SouthCom dispatch. McGrath had a breath alcohol concentration of .14, according to police.

The driver’s side window of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Dogwood Street was reported shattered on June 9.

Jonathan L. Barr, 37, 26950 S. Butler Ct., Crete, was arrested on June 9 and issued a municipal ticket charging possession of cannabis and citations charging operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, speeding over the posted limit, and illegal operation of a sound amplification system, audible at over 75 feet. An officer patrolling in the area of Lakewood Boulevard and Westwood Drive observed the vehicle Barr was driving was traveling 44 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to police. The officer also observed that the vehicle had a loud stereo system which was audible from 3 to 4 houses away in excess of 75 feet, according to police.

Amar Martin, 18, 305 Sheridan St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 9 and issued a municipal citation charging disorderly conduct when police were dispatched to Central Park to investigate a complaint of a subject with a firearm at the park. Police discovered Martin in the park with an empty BB gun inside of a backpack.

The rear window of a vehicle parked in the first block of Park Street was reported shattered on June 10.

The front driver’s side window of a vehicle parked at Cedar Street near Dogwood Street was reported shattered on June 10.

Davell Darquan Day Jackson, 20, 9200 S. Dauphin Ave., Chicago, was arrested on June 10 and charged with misdemeanor retail theft when police were dispatched to a business in the first block of Main Street to investigate a report of a retail theft in progress.

Herbert C. McGrath Jr., 52, 3428 Red Oak Ln., Crete, was arrested on June 11 and charged with criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to the 300 block of Blackhawk Drive in reference to a report of a possible home invasion in progress.

Joshua T. Cathey, 18, 116 Marquette St., Park Forest, was arrested on June 13 and charged with one count of misdemeanor retail theft and two counts of misdemeanor resisting a police officer when police were dispatched to a business in the first block of Main Street to investigate a report of a retail theft in progress.

The pavilion at Somonauk Park, 250 Somonauk Street, was discovered to have been vandalized with white paint on June 13.
