Asleep at the Wheel, Car In Drive, Park Forest Woman Charged with DUI

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Park Forest Police Department issued the following statement on its Facebook page regarding the DUI arrest of a Park Forest woman early Saturday morning, January 17:

"On 1/17/2015, shortly after 1:30 AM, while on patrol Corporal Mannino observed a vehicle stopped on Western Avenue north of Hemlock St., in the southbound lanes facing north, with two of the tires on the curb. Upon making contact with the driver, a 58 year old Park Forest woman, the officer found her asleep, despite the vehicle still being in drive.

"Upon waking her, having the vehicle placed in park, and engaging her in conversation, the officer found her to be exhibiting obvious signs of being under the influence of alcohol. After on-scene investigation, she was taken into custody. Following additional investigation at the police department, the impaired driver was ultimately charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and issued traffic citations.

"Driving impaired places both the driver and other motorists in grave danger. In this case, the driver’s vehicle fortunately came to rest on a curb before striking any other vehicles, but had another vehicle been traveling southbound in the appropriate lanes at the same time, the results could have been disastrous."
