Arrest Made In 22-Year-Old Cold Case Homicide


Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A 71-year-old California man has been arrested for the 1992 murder of a 15-year-old boy, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced July 24.

Robert Serritella was arrested the morning of July 21 at his home in Los Angeles by Cook County Sherriff’s Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officers on a warrant from Cook County.He is the suspect in the death of David Chereck.

Serritella was scheduled to appear July 24 in a Los Angeles courtroom for an extradition hearing.

David’s body was found in the Linne Woods Forest Preserve in Morton Grove on Jan. 2, 1992. He had been strangled with a scarf.

Sheriff’s Police learned that David was last seen by his friends on Jan. 1, 1992 at approximately 10:15 p.m. walking home on Harms Road from Lincoln Avenue in Skokie. He was alone and was approximately two blocks from his house.

Over the course of the investigation, Sheriff’s Police gathered additional information, re-interviewed witnesses, and analyzed reports that led to an arrest warrant for Serritella.

Sheriff Dart reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the government in a court of law.
