Readout of Secretary of Defense Ash Carter’s Meetings with Amir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah and Minister of Defense Khalid al-Jarrah al-Sabah of Kuwait

KUWAIT–(ENEWSPF)–February 23, 2015.  Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout:

Secretary Carter met today with His Highness Amir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah of Kuwait, and Minister of Defense Khalid al-Jarrah al-Sabah.

The secretary expressed appreciation for the strategic partnership between the United States and Kuwait and thanked the Amir for his nation’s ongoing support in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), specifically Kuwait’s willingness to host U.S. and coalition forces in support of military operations.

They also discussed their shared commitment to continue the two nations’ close security cooperation during Secretary Carter’s leadership of the department.‎

The meetings come at the end of Secretary Carter’s first week in office, during which he made it a priority to travel to Afghanistan and the Middle East.
