ISAF Joint Command Operational Update, June 4, 2013


KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–June 4, 2013 – An Afghan and coalition security force killed a Taliban leader, Mohammad Khan, during an operation in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, yesterday.

Khan served as an intelligence operative who enabled command and control attack coordination in the local area. He was directly responsible for directing improvised explosive device emplacements and ambush attacks targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitated the movement of weapons and IEDs in Panjwa’i.

North

An Afghan and coalition security force killed five extremists during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Archi district, Kunduz province, today. The senior leader is responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in insurgent operations. He has also directed and coordinated attacks in Archi district resulting in the deaths of numerous Afghan National Security Force personnel. During the operation, a group of insurgents opened fire on the security force. The security force returned fire, killing five fighters. The security force also seized one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, four RPG rounds and one AK-47 as a result of the operation.

5th Special Operations Kandak Commandos, Afghan Uniformed Police, and Coalition Forces killed seven enemies of Afghanistan and wounded four others during a clearing operation yesterday to deny a safe haven for enemy activity in Imam Sahib district, Kunduz province. The detainees have been transferred to Afghan law enforcement officials for further processing.
