ISAF Joint Command Operational Update, June 3, 2013


KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–June 3, 2013 – Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a Haqqani leader, Faizullah, during an operation in Gardez district, Paktiya province, Saturday.

Faizullah, also known as Shahab, conducted improvised explosive device attacks and intimidation campaigns targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He facilitated the movement of weapons and military equipment into the local area. He was also responsible for kidnapping operations and coordinated with senior leaders to carry out guidance within the Haqqani network.

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the arrest of a Taliban leader during an operation in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, yesterday. The leader has conducted numerous attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also coordinates the movement of weapons and fighters through Nangarhar province and performs limited intelligence duties for local Taliban networks.

An Afghan Quick Reaction Force killed 20 enemies of Afghanistan and detained one other while responding to an attack on an ALP checkpoint in Orgun-e district Paktika province yesterday.  The Afghan force engaged an unknown number of enemies of Afghanistan shortly after being dispatched by the District Operation Center.  The detainee is in the custody of the Afghan Uniformed Police.
