ISAF Joint Command Operational Update, June 1, 2013


KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–June 1, 2013 – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and one other enemy of Afghanistan during an operation in Marjeh district, Helmand province, today.

The leader is responsible for multiple direct and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also involved in the construction of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices for use in attacks and provides operational reports to his fellow Taliban fighters.

The security force also seized one mortar round and one AK-47 magazine as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested one enemy of Afghanistan during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, today. The leader maintains operational control over a group of fighters responsible for coordinating improvised explosive device and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He has also directed assassinations against Afghan civilians and has facilitated the movement of weapons in Kandahar City and Shah Wali Kot district

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a senior Taliban leader, Razaq, during an operation in Khakrez district, Kandahar province, Thursday. Razaq directed and executed improvised explosive device, indirect fire and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He provided instruction on making IEDs and distributed suicide vests for use in attacks. He was also responsible for the facilitation of IEDs, weapons and military equipment for multiple Taliban groups operating in Kandahar.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested two enemies of Afghanistan during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, today. The senior leader is responsible for a wide range of Taliban activity. He oversees a group of fighters involved in ambushes, improvised explosive device operations and complex attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitates the movement of weapons in various districts throughout Nangarhar province and serves as an intelligence operative for senior Taliban officials. The security force also seized eight pounds of opium as a result of the operation.
