ISAF Condemns Insurgent Attack on International Committee of the Red Cross Building

KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–May 30, 2013 – ISAF strongly condemns the senseless attack by enemies of Afghanistan on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office building in Jalalabad yesterday. The ICRC is an organization that provides aid and comfort for Afghans, and this vicious attack shows how these enemies will ruthlessly kill innocent people in an attempt to undo the hard work Afghans have put in to their nation.

“I express my sympathies to the families of those wounded and killed in yesterday’s senseless attack and emphasize that we will continue to stand by our Afghan partners as they march toward a more stable and secure future,” said Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, the ISAF commander.  “This attack shows a blatant disregard for human life, but it will not stop the progress being made here. Those who were killed or wounded in this attack will be remembered for their sacrifice in service to their country.”

The ISAF commander also recognized the bravery of the Afghan citizens serving as security personnel at the ICRC, who lost one of their own, to save innocent civilians.

“The security personnel demonstrated exceptional heroism and competence in response to this attack,” Dunford said.  “They clearly prevented the enemies of Afghanistan from achieving their objective of inflicting mass casualties.”
