ISAF Joint Command Operational Update, November 29, 2012


KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–November 29, 2012 – Afghan and coalition officials confirmed today that Assadullah, a top district-level Taliban leader, was killed during an operation in Sar-e Pul province, Tuesday.

Assadullah led a group of Taliban fighters and had planned and executed numerous attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also had direct contact with senior Taliban insurgents in the province and assisted them in the planning and coordination of attacks.

During the operation, the security force detained one suspected insurgent and seized several rocket propelled grenades, a large quantity of assault rifles and ammunition.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a district-level Taliban leader in Kandahar province, today. The leader was in charge of coordinating the storage and transfer of Taliban weapons and ammunition. He also oversaw the construction of improvised explosive devices.

Afghan and coalition officials confirmed today that a Taliban facilitator was arrested during a security operation in Kandahar province, Monday. The facilitator they arrested oversaw the construction and emplacement of improvised explosive devices.

Coalition forces discovered a drug cache yesterday in Helmand province.  The cache contained 244 kilograms (538 pounds) of heroin. The heroin was destroyed on site.

East

On Tuesday an Afghan security force, supported by coalition troops, conducted an operation in Laghman province that resulted in the death of numerous insurgents and the detention of two others.
