VoteVets Action Fund Drops over $200,000 in Iowa, North Dakota and Illinois

Group makes aggressive push to highlight which politicians support veterans, and which don’t

Washington, DC –(ENEWSPF)–October 18, 2012.  VoteVets Action Fund, supported by over 200,000 veterans, military families and civilian supporters, is launching a radio ad in Iowa, and sending direct mail in North Dakota and Illinois, educating voters about where candidates stand on issues of importance to veterans.  The total cost of the activities is over $200,000.  This brings VoteVets Action Fund’s spending in 2012 to a total of $4 million.

In Iowa, a $62,000 radio buy promotes the record on veterans issues of Congressman Dave Loebsack.  The ad features Iowa City Iraq Afghanistan Veteran, Jeff Lindaman and his wife Roxanne, who tout Loebsack’s tremendous record on health care for rural veterans, and benefits for members of the National Guard and their families.  That ad can be heard here:  http://votevets.org/tools/mp3s/files/IA-radio.mp3 .  A full script is below.

In North Dakota, $75,000 in direct mail is being sent to households which compares the records on veterans issues of Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Rick Berg.  The mailer features a World War II veteran, Doug Burtell, who lives in the state.  On the cover of the mail, he asks, “I was taken care of when I came home from war.  But who will stand up for today’s veterans?”  The mailer notes that while Heitkamp supports asking millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share, so we can protect funding for programs that benefit veterans, Berg supports further tax cuts for top earners, yet voted against allowing veterans to take Veterans Day off of work.  The mailer can be viewed here: http://votevets.org/tools/mp3s/files/ND-mail.pdf

In Illinois, $75,000 in direct mail is being sent to households in the 8th Congressional District, exposing Congressman Joe Walsh’s record.  The mailer makes clear that “Joe Walsh has abandoned our values,” and goes on to say, “Veterans honor our Country and know their duty is to help all Americans. But Congressman Joe Walsh doesn’t live up to our values. His record does a disservice to Illinois, our families and our veterans.”  The mail cites Walsh’s votes to protect those who ship jobs overseas, to cut Pell Grants, to block a payroll tax holiday, and to turn Medicare into a voucher program.  The mailer can be viewed, here: http://votevets.org/tools/mp3s/files/IL-mail.pdf.
