Documentary Offers Poignant and Disturbing Look at Devastating Impact of War on Drugs on Families and Communities
Filmmakers Teaming Up with Advocacy Groups, Law Enforcement, Elected Officials across Country to Educate and Mobilize to End Disastrous War on Drugs
LOS ANGELES–(ENEWSPF)–September 20, 2012. The Drug Policy Alliance and the John M. Langston Bar Association of Los Angeles will host a special screening of the thought-provoking documentary, “The House I Live In” on Friday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with Mike Carpenter, a character featured in the film, and the director, Eugene Jarecki. Jarecki is partnering with a vast array of advocacy groups, legislators and law enforcement to spread the film’s message about the disastrous consequences of the failed war on drugs. Other panelists include Assemblyman Mike Davis, LA County Superior Court Judge Patricia Titus, and Kyle Kazan, a retired Torrance police officer and member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.
Since the 1970’s the war on drugs has accounted for 45 million arrests and has cost more than $1 trillion. As a result, the United States has become the world’s largest jailer, and the high volume of drug arrests have destroyed low-income communities, creating a vicious cycle that must be stopped. Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Eugene Jarecki “The House I Live In” offers a poignant look inside US drug policy and it’s far reaching impact. Executive Producers include Danny Glover, John Legend, Russell Simmons, and Joslyn Barnes. The film will be opening in theaters in Los Angeles on October 12.
