Congresswoman Duckworth Named Ranking Member of Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Transportation

Washington, DC –(ENEWSPF)–January 29, 2015.  This week, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) was named Democratic Ranking Member of the Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee is a new subcommittee in the 114th Congress that has oversight jurisdiction over the Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Transportation Security Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the General Services Administration and federal real property. Rep. John Mica (R-FL) was named Chairman of the subcommittee.

“I want to thank Chairman Chaffetz, Ranking Member Cummings and my colleagues on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for this opportunity. I believe that the Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee can play an important role in making our transportation system more safe and efficient and help our economy grow as a result. I look forward to advocating for my neighbors in Illinois and all Americans as Ranking Member,” said Duckworth.

Congresswoman Duckworth is a strong supporter of transportation projects in the 8th District and believes that improving our nation’s transportation and infrastructure is vital to our economy. She advocated for the construction of the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Project, which broke ground in October of 2013 and is expected to create 65,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2040 and save drivers $145 million annually in time and fuel costs. Duckworth is also a strong advocate for reducing noise pollution for communities surrounding O’Hare International Airport.
