Mayor Emanuel Announces ContextMedia Will Expand Workforce in Chicago

Company to Hire an Additional 600 Jobs in Chicago; Growing Chicago’s Technology Workforce is A Key Initiative of the Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–January 27, 2015.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel and ContextMedia CEO Rishi Shah announced yesterday that the company plans to hire an additional 200 jobs in Chicago this year including positions across all functional areas and skill levels. ContextMedia also expects to add 400 additional jobs in Chicago next year as it continues to expand. The company, which moved into its current 33,000 square foot headquarters at 330 North Wabash Avenue in April, has already outgrown its space and will be looking to expand in 2015.

“ContextMedia is a great example of the tech economy we have in Chicago today and the even stronger tech economy we are building for tomorrow,” Mayor Emanuel said. “The City of Chicago used to be the flyover city for the tech community. Today we are becoming the destination city for the best tech companies and the best tech talent, as the great team at ContextMedia can attest.”

The company, which started 2014 with 46 full-time employees, ended the year with over 110 and plans to double its growth for each of the next two years, hiring 200 new employees this year, and an additional 400 employees in 2016. Hires will be made across numerous skill levels and sectors, including sales and marketing, analysts and software developers.

ContextMedia is a health information services company, providing patient education solutions for healthcare professionals in the chronic disease care sector. Founded by Rishi Shah and Shradha Agarwal in Chicago in 2006, the company, which has seen exceptional growth, has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America for the last two years and is one of the fastest growing private technology companies in Chicago.

“We’re excited to continue growing ContextMedia and demonstrating that world class technology companies are being built and scaled in Chicago,” said Founder and CEO Rishi Shah. “There’s no limit to what our ecosystem can achieve with a Mayor that is committed to building a city that will attract and retain one of the best workforces in the world.”

Founders, Rishi Shah and Shradha Agarwal, also created a venture capital fund called Jumpstart Ventures that has made over 38 investments and invested over $10 million back into Chicago’s startup community.

According to Built In Chicago, in the first half of 2014, Chicago-area company exits and Initial Public Offerings reached over $5 billion. In that time, Chicago’s technology startups brought in nearly a half-billion dollars in funding, a 128 percent increase over the first half of 2013, with nearly 20 companies securing $1 million or more.
