DuPage County to receive $5,060,645 in funding
WASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–May 29, 2014. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that nine communities in Illinois will receive a total of $10,219,186 in grant funding through three programs administered by Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help develop urban communities.
“This federal investment will give local development agencies across Illinois the ability to offer affordable housing and homeless assistance to the people in their community who need it most,” said Durbin.
Community Development Block Grants
The Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program provides annual grants to states and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and by expanding economic opportunities principally for low and moderate income persons. CDBG funding is an important tool for helping local governments to tackle serious challenges facing their communities. The following Chicagoland communities will receive CDBG funding:
Arlington Heights, Illinois will receive $249,710 in funding;
Danville, Illinois: will receive $876,136 in funding;
DeKalb, Illinois will receive $408,847 in funding;
Naperville, Illinois will receive$424,250 in funding;
Normal, Illinois will receive $409,101 in funding;
Skokie, Illinois will receive $470,419 in funding;
Aurora, Illinois will receive $1,437,288 in funding;
DuPage County, Illinois will receive $3,493,505 in funding and;
Pekin, Illinois will receive $350,260 in funding.
HOME Program
The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to state and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities. HOME is the largest Federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The following communities will receive HOME program funding:
Aurora, Illinois will receive $532,530 in funding and;
DuPage County, Illinois will receive$1,312,014 in funding.
Emergency Shelter Grants
The Emergency Shelter Grants program provides annual grants to state, local and private entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters. Emergency Shelter Grants are available for the rehabilitation or remodeling of a building used as a new shelter, operations and maintenance of the facility, essential supportive services and homeless prevention. Under this announcement, DuPage, County, Illinois will receive $255,126 in funding.
