“This is a historic and monumental day for the Southland and Illinois. Many thought this day would never come, but we remained committed. New airports don’t come easy; the last non-replacement airport ground-breaking we had in this country was in 1969.
I will continue to work with the Governor, the General Assembly, IDOT and the surrounding communities to build the newest, safest, cleanest, quietest and most efficient airport in the world. This airport will create tens of thousands of jobs, spur economic growth and help Illinois thrive in the 21st century global economy.
While we still have much work to do, this is another step toward making this airport a reality.â€
