Patricia Yussuf

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–June 2, 2016.  An Evanston woman whose life fell apart for years after being harassed and assaulted by superiors in her U.S. Army unit will discuss her recovery and new career working with veterans as Veterans Upward Bound at Roosevelt celebrates its 20th anniversary on Friday, June 3.

Patricia Yusuff-Hudson, whose story is well documented, and three other local veterans who found help through Roosevelt’s VUB program will talk about the difficult journey they have faced in assimilating to life after the military from noon to 3 p.m. in Roosevelt’s seventh-floor Gage Building, 18 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Free and open to the media and the public, the open house event is an opportunity to be introduced to VUB at Roosevelt University and the many moving stories of its participants.

“At VUB, we live by the motto that it’s never too late for our veterans to realize their goals and dreams,” said Chris Chalko, director of the U.S. Department of Education program whose teaching and counseling facilities are at Roosevelt University.

The only program of its kind in Illinois, VUB at Roosevelt has helped thousands of area veterans since opening its doors in October of 1995 to prepare for college, careers and pathways to employment.
