The Park Forest Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard, has announced its Special Events that will take place in October.

Coming up this month:

October 3rd at 5 p.m. – “Contagious Visions: Anti-Bullying & Educational Symposium”

The “Dream Maker on Fire,” author Julius Mercer, has created his own informational workshop that helps to build a defense against a sub-culture of teens who negatively affect the youth. Although this program is geared towards teens, we encourage people of all ages to come out and learn from the lessons that Mercer will be sharing at his symposium.

October 6th at 1 p.m.  – “Paint & Sip: Coyote Art”

The Paint and Sip program is back again this month, and this time we’re delving into the world of wildlife! Join artist Dana Bloede as she demonstrates how to paint the elusive coyote during this painting workshop. Punch will also be served! All participants must be at least 18 years old to participate. Registration is required for this event.

October 13th at 1 p.m. – “Blues 101”

Join three-time Blues Music Award Nominee and The Blues Foundation’s “Keeping the Blues Alive” Award recipient Fruteland Jackson for an afternoon of music and stories. Native to the West side of Chicago, Jackson is not only a musician but an author, storyteller, and oral historian as well. Spend your afternoon enjoying Blues music with the whole family! This event is suitable for all ages.

October 19th at 3 p.m. – “Paranormal Illinois”

Do you have an interest in the unknown? Are you in the mood for a spooky experience before Halloween? If you answered yes to these questions, then Paranormal Illinois is the event for you. Join author and expert Chad Lewis as he explores some of Illinois’ strangest and spookiest legends and folklore.

October 20th at 11 a.m. — “Life Ripples”

Join us as we read and bring intention to small actions at our Life Ripples Book Discussion. This month we’ll be diving into “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,” by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Grab your copy today!

October 25th at 6 p.m. – “Pop Culture Trivia Night”

Do you have a knack for trivia? Are you a film fanatic? Put your movie knowledge to the test at our Pop Culture Trivia Night! Winner(s) will receive a special prize. Participants must be at least 13 years old to participate. Registration for this event is required.
