Park Forest Library Announces February Special Events

It’s hard to think about leaving the house on these cold, winter days. But the Park Forest Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard, has many special events planned for February that will inspire you to join us.

The Library’s Winter 2018 Potpourri of Lectures continues in February with some exciting topics. All Potpourri of Lectures are presented on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and are held in the Library’s Ringering Room.

February topics will be:

February 1st – “Robbins: The Most Historic Black Town in America”   Presenter will be Tyrone Haymore. He is currently the director and co-founder of the Robbins Historical Society Museum in Robbins, IL. He is a noted historian on African-American Aviation history and the Tuskegee Airmen.

February 8th – “Underground Railroad in the Calumet Region” Presenter will be Tom Shepherd. Hear the history of the Underground Railroad in the calumet region and learn about the efforts to construct a monument denoting that history.

February 15th – “Ancient Healing Techniques” Presenters will be Liz Pilotto & Regina Sargent, RN, CWS, HTP, Healing Touch Practitioner. Learn about the ancient healing techniques of aromatherapy and energy medicine.

February 22nd – “Traditional Medicine: Global Healing Techniques” Presenter will be Rebecca Cerf. Traditional medicine is found in almost every country in the world and today, approximately 65-85% of the world’s population rely on traditional medicine as a primary form of health care. This lecture will touch upon the basics of several different traditional healing techniques used in various parts of world, how they differ and what are their common factors.

Why not consider joining one of Park Forest Public Library’s Book Circles. There are four book circles that meet monthly (except for July/August). Practical Application Circle: Discussion of Soulful Simplicity by Courtney Carver Saturday February 17th at 12:30 p.m.

Earth Wise Book Circle: Discussion of Birds, Art, Life: A Year in Observation by Kyo Maclear Saturday February 24th at  1 p.m.

Morning Pages Circle: Discussion of Your Heart’s Desire Instructions for Creating the Life You Really Want by Sonia Choquette Sunday February 25th at 1:30 p.m.
