FIGMENT Announces First Event in Pittsburgh on Oct 6-7; Opens Call for Participatory Art Projects

PITTSBURGH—(ENEWSPF)—July 31, 2012.  A new kind of art festival is coming to Pittsburgh. It’s a new way to experience art, fully participatory and interactive. FIGMENT is about making art come alive to become part of the environment as, sounds, lights and structures; the art is limited only by the imagination. Free to the public and the artist, FIGMENT Pittsburgh introduces a new way to view, and ultimately, experience art.

Art improves a community by improving individuals, it gives them a new perspective of what art is and what it can be. Art in itself is important because it takes things that seem unrelated and makes new connections. It pushes our imagination to think beyond the apparent boundaries of possibility, then make them a reality. All of science, engineering, design and even cooking are dependent on these facilities. Art is a reflection and exercise of our most complex abilities. This is what makes art, and thus, FIGMENT, important.

About FIGMENT:

Founded in 2007 on New York City’s Governors Island with a handful of projects and a few thousand enthusiasts, FIGMENT has grown exponentially into a multi-day, multi-city event that drew over 30,000 participants in NYC, Boston, Jackson (MS) and Detroit in 2011. With the addition of Washington DC, Cedar Rapids and Pittsburgh in 2012, FIGMENT grows to seven cities and continues its mission to offer free, inclusive and participatory art and creative culture to entire communities, removing the barriers of museum and gallery walls and entrance fees, and blurring the lines between those who create and those who enjoy art.

The FIGMENT PGH 2012 event is October 6-7 from 10AM-6PM, our first annual weekend event, in which Allegheny Commons will be filled with interactive and participatory artwork in every discipline.
