Park Forest Area League of Women Voters to Host Meeting on Charter School Oversight on Sunday, December 14


Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)–December 1, 2014– The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host a meeting to provide information on the state League study of the management of charter schools, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 14 at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard in Park Forest. 

The Charter School Study Committee will present an informational video of a panel discussion of issues relating to accountability, transparency, and funding of charter schools.  Panelists include:  Dr. Marvin Hoffman, University of Chicago, founder of Kenwood/Oakland Charter School; Andrew Broy, President of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools; Kurt Hilgendorf, Researcher, Chicago Teachers Union; and Dr. Gary Miron, Western Michigan University, specialist in studies for profit and nonprofit charter management organizations.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend to learn more about issues related to oversight and accountability for charter schools.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
