Salt Creek Ballet Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary with a Special Production of ‘The Nutcracker’ on December 6


University Park, IL –(ENEWSPF)—November 21, 2014. The highly acclaimed Salt Creek Ballet is celebrating their 30th Anniversary with a special new production of the lovable holiday classic The Nutcracker. This year, the production will feature all new sets, costumes, a 42-piece ensemble and internationally recognized guest dancers. The Nutcracker returns to Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University on Saturday, December 6th at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Families will enjoy a ‘Sugar Plum Party’ between the performances at 3 p.m. where they can take pictures with Santa, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies and enter to win prizes. 

The Chicago Sun-Times calls the production “…a solid, professional ‘Nutcracker’,” and The Chicago Tribune calls it “a plum performance.” An enchanting holiday tradition, this year’s production of The Nutcracker features a cast of 100 dancers, including local children and young adults ages 8-17 from the school of the Salt Creek Ballet. 

This year, internationally recognized guest artists include Ilya Kozadayev and Yumelia Garcia. Ilya Kozadayev is the son of Salt Creek Ballet famed artistic directors Sergey Kozadayev and Zhanna Dubrovskaya.  Mr. Kozadeyev, a former soloist with Houston Ballet is currently an assistant professor of dance at the University of Oklahoma and is pursuing his master’s in choreography. In addition, his professional career includes performing with Pittsburg Ballet Theatre, Colorado Ballet, and Boston Ballet.  

Yumelia Garcia, having retired from Joffrey Ballet in 2014 as a leading artist, is currently pursuing the next chapter of her life which includes numerous guest appearances while obtaining a degree at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Salt Creek Ballet is thrilled to include the guest dancers in this year’s special 30th Anniversary performance; a treat for southland audiences.

Salt Creek Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker returns to the Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, December 6 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets are $20-40  for adults, $20 for seniors (65 and older); and $20 for children (16 and under).
