Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Village Board recently issued a resolution recognizing the contributions of John Goodrich to the Village of Park Forest on the occasion of his retirement from the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District Board. John, his wife Therese, family members, and many, many friends filled the board room for the proclamation.
The resolution follows:
WHEREAS John Goodrich was originally from Spokane, Washington, where he was educated at Gonzaga University, and he has lived in Park Forest since 1955; and
WHEREAS John became an attorney who was admitted to practice in the states of Illinois and Washington and worked for the Monon Railroad, then the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and afterwards for the Illinois Development Finance Authority; and
WHEREAS John has been the personification of civic duty and volunteerism as evidenced by the numerous organizations to which he has donated his time in the service of others; and
WHEREAS such civic service included multiple terms on the Park Forest Traffic & Safety Commission, the Recreation and Parks Board, two terms as Village Trustee, and multiple terms on the Board of Education of Park Forest/Chicago Heights School District 163; and
WHEREAS besides governmental appointed or elected positions, John Goodrich found time to serve on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Treasurer of Tall Grass Arts Association, and to be heavily involved in the Park Forest Kiwanis Club where he could be seen at the Pankatron on Pancake Day flipping pancakes for many years, St.
Irenaeus Church, and the Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS John is an exemplary family man and he and his wife, Therese, have raised nine amazing children and have been foster parents to many young men from Glenwood School, and also true mentors to many other young people in the community; and
WHEREAS John is a warm, loving member of the community at large, and his neighborhood in particular, whose home and heart always have been open to counsel people in need and to celebrate the major milestones of life, and
WHEREAS in 1998, John Goodrich and his wife, Therese, were deservedly inducted into the Park Forest Historical Society’s Hall of Fame for their consistent, substantial, and beneficial contributions to the life and citizens of Park Forest over a tremendous span of time; and
WHEREAS John Goodrich’s expansive knowledge and experience in the rail industry made him an ideal representative of Park Forest on the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District for nearly two decades, a post he held until his recently submitted letter of resignation.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties, that the deepest appreciation be extended to John Goodrich for his longtime community service on behalf of the generations Park Foresters he has served.
