Illinois Evangelical Leaders Gather to Pray for Immigration Reform

Evangelical Leaders Continue Call for Reform that is Morally Responsible

Aurora, IL-(ENEWSPF)- As momentum for broad immigration reform continues to build in the evangelical community, leaders from Aurora met Friday morning to pray for immigration reform rooted in the biblical values of welcoming the stranger among us.

This morning’s gathering in Aurora was one of more than 400 gatherings and events happening across the country Oct. 12-20. Evangelical Christians are meeting as part of “Pray4Reform: Gathered Together in Jesus’ Name,” a week of prayer that continues the Evangelical Immigration Table‘s ongoing Pray for Reform campaign.

Nationwide, more than 187,000 people have signed onto the effort as prayer partners. With immigration reform next on Congress’ full agenda this fall, evangelical Christians are stressing the urgency of broad, bipartisan reform.

The following quotes can be attributed to participants in Friday’s prayer gathering:

Susan Bachmeier, Senior Immigrant Legal Services Specialist, World Relief Aurora:

“As Christians, it is our call to advocate before our Lord for our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of the current broken immigration system. I am continuously witnessing the frustration and anxiety of people because of the lack of opportunities to work lawfully in the U.S.A. I have noticed the immigrant population refer to the U.S. with gratitude, love, and respect.”

Tim Kustusch, Immigrant Legal Services Refugee & Advocacy Associate, World Relief DuPage Aurora:

“At World Relief, we work day in and day out with immigrants and refugees from around the world. Once you hear these people’s stories face-to-face, you realize that they are not employees, they are not business owners, they are not foreigners, and they are certainly not statistics; they are human beings, and they deserve to be treated as such. We pray that our government will improve our immigration system in a way that reflects the humanity of the people who have left everything behind to escape persecution or poverty.”
