Health Care Reform

Governor Quinn Issues Letter of Support for President Obama’s Health Care Plan

SPRINGFIELD–(ENEWSPF)–September 11, 2009.  The following is the text of a letter sent by Governor Quinn to the Illinois Congressional Delegation voicing his support for President Obama’s health care reform proposal.

September 10, 2009

Dear Member of the Illinois Congressional Delegation:

In his speech before a joint session of Congress, President Barack Obama last night made a compelling and convincing case for comprehensive health care reform.  As governor of Illinois I call on each of you to work diligently over the next several weeks to achieve what is absolutely necessary; national health care reform.

Currently, 14 percent of Illinoisans are without health insurance.  Illinois businesses and families shoulder a hidden health tax of roughly $1,200 per year on premiums that are a direct result of subsidizing the costs of the uninsured.  In addition, premiums for those who have health insurance have risen 89 percent since 2000.

President Obama’s plan will provide stability and security for those who currently have health insurance while also insuring those without coverage.

Please help solve the nations’ health care crisis by supporting the President’s reform effort.

Sincerely,

Pat Quinn

Governor
