Planned Parenthood Announces Stepped-Up Efforts for ACA Outreach through March 31

More than 500 Community Events Planned in Key States, Including: AZ, CO, FL, GA, NM, TX, PA, OH

WASHINGTON, DC—(ENEWSPF)—March 11, 2014. Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s leading women’s health care provider and advocate, announced yesterday that they will be holding more than 500 community education, application, or enrollment events in 18 cities across eight states, in the final weeks before the March 31 enrollment deadline for the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The events, which span tabling at local grocery stores to working with partners at Goodwill to connecting with families at local indoor soccer fields, are part of Planned Parenthood’s effort to ensure all Americans, especially those in areas with the greatest health care need, have the information and resources they need to enroll in new, more affordable health insurance plans under Obamacare. The organization has stepped up outreach in the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

In addition, more than 500 canvassers in those states are knocking on an average of 20,000 doors a day, carrying tablets, and giving individuals and families access to technology that enables them to complete their application for new health care coverage at the door.

“The Affordable Care Act is one of the greatest advancements for women’s health in a generation.  As the leading women’s health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood fought hard for the law’s passage, and in the last few weeks of this enrollment period, we’re working double time to make sure our patients and the communities we serve know about their new health care options,” said Cecile Richards, president, Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “For millions of women, their trusted provider is Planned Parenthood.  And for millions more, Planned Parenthood has been the trusted voice that helps guide them to get covered and get access to the full range of health care services they and their families deserve.”

Since the summer, Planned Parenthood has been engaged in a multi-layered education and outreach effort to reach eligible, uninsured women and families with information about the availability and benefits of new insurance plans, and inform them about why, how, and when to enroll.

Through this expanded outreach effort, Planned Parenthood also announced that it has already reached out to over one million people, to educate them about the new health care options available under the law. More than half of this work is being done in Spanish, helping to reach the nation’s nearly 1-in-3 non-elderly Latinos that are uninsured.

Nationally, Planned Parenthood’s nearly 70 affiliates have contacted an additional 20,000 people on the phones and at the doors.  So far, those affiliates have an additional 300 events planned for the month of March.

Planned Parenthood’s English- and Spanish-language websites, which are designed for women looking for information about what the law means for them, have received more than half a million unique visitors. PlannedParenthoodHealthInsuranceFacts.org and PlannedParenthoodAsegurate.org include a cost calculator that estimates what kind of financial help is available as well as important things people should know when comparing insurance plans. Individuals can also receive information and updates in Spanish by texting SALUD or in English by texting ENROLL to 97779.

Last month, Planned Parenthood launched digital ads in English and Spanish in key states. Additionally, Planned Parenthood and coalition partners announced they are hosting a series of community education, application, or enrollment events in 15 cities with large Latino populations running through March 31.  Events with certified navigators in Texas, Arizona, Illinois, Georgia and Pennsylvania have attracted thousands of Latino families, many of whom chose a plan and successfully enrolled on site.
