JOLIET--(ENEWSPF)--November 17, 2009.  Reaching out to constituents across the 11th District, and working to deliver affordable, quality, stable health care that works for Illinoisans, Rep. Debbie Halvorson (IL-11), completed a five day, six stop health care tour this past weekend with events in Joliet, Kankakee, Normal, and Peru throughout the previous week.  Halvorson ended the week in Peru, where she hosted open community office hours session.

“Everywhere I go in our district I’m approached by people who are dealing with a health care crisis.  I’m proud to have voted for a bill that will help turn that crisis around, and that will ensure access to affordable, quality care for individuals and businesses throughout Illinois.” said Halvorson.

“During this tour I talked to seniors who will see their prescription drug prices lowered, I talked to veterans whose benefits will be protected and who will have access to new options, and I spoke with small business owners who will feel relief from the crushing weight of health care costs on their bottom lines. I believe many of my constituents will benefit from this bill, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the months to come.”

Halvorson’s events included meetings with veterans support groups who asked about how the Affordable Health Care for America Act will benefit veterans, a discussion with local small businesses about how the bill will lower costs and allow them to hire more employees, and a forum with seniors where residents were able to ask questions about how Medicare’s solvency will be lengthened by 5 years, benefits improved, and costs lowered.

“It was great to have Congresswoman Halvorson come in to talk to our seniors,” said JoAnne Alexander, Executive Director of the Southland Senior Services Center, one of the tour stops in Monee. “It allowed our residents to ask questions and find out about how this legislation will make the health care system work for them.”

Halvorson finished the week in Peru on Saturday afternoon, where she hosted a community office hours session, where constituents could meet with the Congresswoman and discuss any topic, without an appointment.
