Richton Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Kindergarten students at Richton Square School participated in the school’s first annual Science Fair recently.

The kindergarteners presented findings on “How Do Our Flowers Grow?” – a project based on the Scientific Method.  Students studied plant growth and each of the six kindergarten classrooms completed one of the six steps of the Scientific Method: hypothesis; background knowledge; materials; procedures; variables; data collection.

After completing their research, all six kindergarten classes participated in the presentation of their observations for parents, visitors and fellow pre-k students. Two students from each kindergarten classroom then presented a written report and a short presentation on their findings to a panel of judges.

Judges for the Science Fair were students from Huth Middle School, Illinois School and Southland Charter Prep High School. Honorary judges were Mayor Rick Reinbold, of Richton Park; and Dr. Doug Hamilton, Educational Consultant for Matteson School District 162.

“We are so proud of our kindergarten students and the scientific findings they presented as part of their ‘How Do Our Flowers Grow?’ project,” said Dr. Janiece Jackson, Principal of Richton Square School. “Thank you to all the teachers, science fair coordinator Fran Beukelman, and judges who helped make this first Science Fair a huge success. We are very much looking forward to next year’s Science Fair,” she added.

Richton Square is an early childhood education center located in Richton Park, Illinois that has enrollment of approximately 120 pre-k and 127 kindergarten students. Richton Square is focused on providing students with a foundation for impactful education and, more importantly, the developmental playground for lifelong, purposeful learning.
